If you're passionate about Scotland's favourite pastime, eWaterways and Lord of the Glens are offering a golfer's dream. Enjoy 7 nights / 8 days on the luxurious Lord of Glens cruising the spectacular Scottish countryside and playing several rounds of golf at some of the very best courses to be found anywhere in the world.



Golfing highlights include rounds at the Mull of Kintyre's old Machrihanish course, established by Tom Collins in 1897, and the brand-new Dunes Machrihanish, the first links course to open on Scotland's west coast for a century. You'll also get to test your game at the Craignure, Machrie and Nairn courses. All green fees are included as well as transportation to and from the courses.



Non-golfers need not worry. If packing the Plus-Fours is not your top priority, you'll still relish all the daily excursions to Scotland's best sights has to offer and the superb hospitality offered on the Lord of the Glens.


Itinerary


Day 1

Embarkation is permitted from 16.00 hours in Muirtown Basin (Inverness). If time permits the Lord of the Glens will sail to Dochgarroch Locks where she will berth overnight. Enjoy the Captain's Welcome Reception and Dinner followed by entertainment from young local dancers and piper. Moor at Dochgarroch overnight (rail transfers to Inverness can be arranged)



Day 2

Early departure for Golfers to Nairn Golf Course (if necessary ship would move from Muirtown to Dochgarroch). Non-golfers visit Cawdor Castle and tour of Inverness, then return to the ship for lunch. As soon as golfers return the ship will cruise into Loch Ness for Fort Augustus, ascend the locks and berth overnight in Fort Augustus.



Day 3

Lord of the Glens departs early and sails along the Great Glen to Banavie, descending Neptune's Staircase and entering the sea at Corpach. Along the canal there will be opportunities to walk alongside the ship. During dinner we will arrive at Craignure on the Isle of Mull.



Day 4

Embark by coach to visit the beautiful Isle of Iona, one of the cradles of Christianity and home of St Columba. Iona Abbey is visited by many pilgrims and even if not visiting for a pilgrimage, visitors are always impressed with the beauty and serenity of Iona. Lunch is served at the St. Columba Hotel. Alternatively, golfers can play Craignure Golf Course whilst non-golfers proceed to Torosay Castle and Gardens before re-embarking the ship. Moor Craignure overnight. (Please note, passengers playing Craignure will not be able to do the Iona excursion.)




Lord of the Glens



Day 5

Sail from the Isle of Mull to Port Ellen on the Isle of Islay and arrive late morning. After lunch, golfers play on Machrie Golf Course. The non-golfers visit Ardbeg Whisky Distillery. Moor Port Ellen overnight.



Day 6

Sail in the morning from Port Ellen to Kennacraig on the Mull of Kintyre, part of the Scottish mainland. After lunch golfers transfer to Machrihanish I Golf Course. Non golfers visit Inveraray Castle and the Georgian town of Inveraray. Return to the ship at Kennacraig for dinner and berth overnight.



Day 7

After breakfast Golfers transfer to Machrihanish II, non-golfers visit the beautiful town of Tarbet on Loch Fyne returning for lunch. Golfers return in the afternoon. Lord of the Glens departs for Oban arriving early evening in time for the Captain's Farewell Party.



Day 8

Parting of the ways - disembark in Oban (rail transfers to Glasgow can be arranged).



Cruise includes:



All meals on board, port charges and taxes, golf green fees and transfer to and from the courses, other excursions.

The Lord of the Glens is quite simply the only passenger vessel that is able to both navigate the Scottish inland waterways of the Caledonian Canal and the open sea. To make this possible, the vessel was designed to meet exacting criteria in terms of its dimensions and to satisfy the stringent safety requirementsof the British Maritime authorities. To this end, Spanish craftsmen reconstructed the vessel in 2000 using the finest materials and equipment.
