Martial Law in Thailand NOT Affecting Tourism...

Our associates in Thailand have released a statement to reassure tourists planning to visit Bangkok and Thailand...

Bangkok Update: Martial Law and What it means for Tourists

For some, “martial law” may sound like a step away from war, yet many Bangkok residents are relieved to see the military taking action in a bid to return control to the protests. Protest marches are now forbidden under the law; protests can continue but they must stay within their designated sites. The situation at the rally sites of both anti- and pro-government groups in Bangkok remains calm.  All is peaceful within the capital with residents going about their daily lives without problem.

The impact on tourists

The implementation of martial law has had no effect on transport or tourist attractions across the country. All public transport and tourist attractions, including airports, tourist sites and shopping malls, are currently open and operating as normal.  There is currently no curfew in place in Bangkok or at any other tourist destination in Thailand. Life goes on as normal in the city with the exception of the presence of a few soldiers on the streets, simply to ensure peace and order is kept at the protest sites.

International visitors can continue to travel within Bangkok and other destinations in the country as normal.  All beach resorts and other destinations within Thailand have not been affected by the political situation and the airports and other transportation systems are operating normally.  This law should have little or no effect on tourists; this is strictly an internal issue and not targeted towards tourists at all.
As of right now, most tourists within Bangkok will probably not see any protesters and it is quite possible they won’t see many soldiers either. The law means little for travelers on the ground, if tourists do see soldiers there is no need to avoid them as Thai Soldiers are friendly and disciplined.

Throughout the political protests we have advised that all visitors avoid the major protest sites and this message still remains.  Exotissimo is operating all tours and transfers in Bangkok as normal with only slight disruption to avoid protest sites.  We do not foresee this changing, but will continue to keep up to speed on the developing situation.
